Who am I and why am I applying for the role of Shopify Guru?

My Name is Eoin and I have recently returned from living in beautiful Upstate New York, where I practiced law for five years. I learned a lot about myself and about what i want from life.

One of the most surprising things I learned was that I don't want to work as a lawyer in a traditional sense i.e. 9-9 working as one of hundreds in a big corporate law firm obsessing over billable hours for some hedge fund or other.

I also learned that the kind of law I did enjoy, that of the local small/solo general practitioner is dying out and being squeezed out by the big firms. So I set about looking for something to else to do with myself.

I loved dealing with complicated people in complicated situations. The higher the stakes and pressure the more focused I found myself and I especially loved it when I came up with solutions that no one else had thought of. These solutions were more often than not a cocktail of common sense and imagination with a healthy splash of simplicity.

More often than not I found that my legal knowledge was a secondary tool to solving the problems my clients faced. Whether they be small business owners, immigrants or criminal defendants, time and again personality, persuasion and plain common sense fixed or averted most problems.

Most of all however I learned that "Home" is definitely where my heart is. To that end I eagerly want to find a job that I will enjoy, that will be challenging and that will have room for growth close to my hometown of Galway.

I came across this position through a friend working for the company and after hearing a description and reading the job application instructions I think that being a Guru might be just the job for me.
